Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh on Saturday said that he has written to the Advocate General to seek his opinion whether the state government could run a parallel probe into the Bhima-Koregaon violence-Elgar Parishad case, after the investigation into the case was transferred to the National Investigative Agency (NIA) earlier this week by a Pune-based court.

The Additional Sessions Court, Pune on Friday allowed National Investigation Agency’s application seeking transfer of the trial in Bhima Koregaon case to Special NIA Court Mumbai.
Firstly, the Central Government passed an order on January 24, 2020 directing NIA to take up the investigation in the case. Pursuant to this, NIA filed an application before the trial court.

A sessions court in the city of Pune in Maharashtra on Friday transferred the Bhima Koregaon-Elgar Parishad case to a special National Investigation Agency court in Mumbai, PTI reported. Additional Sessions Judge SR Navander passed the order after the state government submitted it had no objection to the investigation agency’s plea for a transfer.

The Maharashtra government has said it has no objection to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) taking over probe into the Elgar Parishad case.
The Centre last month transferred the probe in the case from Pune Police to the NIA, a decision which was then criticised by the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government in Maharashtra.
