The Bombay High Court is likely to pronounce its verdict on the bail hearing of activist and lawyer Sudha Bharadwaj on Monday, 11 March. This comes about five months after the Pune High Court rejected her bail. Bharadwaj was first put on house arrest in August 2018 and then arrested by the Pune police in October 2018 in connection with the Elgar Parishad case.

The Bombay high court has refused to give immediate relief to Vernon Gonsalves, an accused in the Bhima-Koregaon violence case. Mr Gonsalves had challenged the extension given by the district court to the police to file a charge sheet in the case. The HC has directed the state to file a reply by April 9.

The National Secretary of the Peoples Union for Civil Liberties has been placed 5th in rank amongst 21 prominent women across the globe. Bharadwaj, a professor at NLU, Delhi, was arrested on October 27, 2018, for allegedly being part of a banned Maoist organisation and inciting violence after the Elgar Parishad was held in Pune. The Bombay high court (HC) on Thursday reserved the order on the bail application of civil rights activist Sudha Bharadwaj, who was arrested by the Pune police in connection with the Elgar Parishad case. Justice Nitin Sambre said he will pronounce the order on March 11.
