The two-member Bhima Koregaon inquiry commission is headed by retired chief justice of Calcutta High Court Jay Narayan Patel and includes former chief secretary Sumit Mullick as its member. The state government has granted a two-month extension to the commission, set up to probe the violence which broke out on January 1, 2018, at Bhima Koregaon, on Tuesday.

Maharashtra government has constituted a two-member committee on Monday to probe into the complaints of phone tapping made by a number of political leaders including Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Chief Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut. With the state state government not being able to provide funds and salaries to the members of Koregaon Bhima commission, the body has stated that it will not be able to function in such a scenario. Dalit activists have written to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackery, , demanding that the government immediately take steps to rectify this and have alleged that this lapse makes it clear that the commission was constituted as just an eyewash by the previous government.

Mumbai: The inquiry commission set up in Maharashtra to investigate the Koregaon-Bhima riots could call former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, one of the petitioners before the commissioner told reporters. The commission is headed by former Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court JN Patel and former Maharashtra Chief Secretary Sumit Malik and was set up to conduct an inquiry into the riot that took place in Koregaon Bhima on January 1, 2018.
