A sessions court in the city of Pune in Maharashtra on Friday transferred the Bhima Koregaon-Elgar Parishad case to a special National Investigation Agency court in Mumbai, PTI reported. Additional Sessions Judge SR Navander passed the order after the state government submitted it had no objection to the investigation agency’s plea for a transfer.

The Bombay High Court on Friday refused to grant anticipatory bail to journalist Gautam Navlakha and scholar Anand Teltumbde in the Bhima Koregaon case.
However, the interim protection from arrest granted to both the accused was extended for four weeks in order to grant the accused time to appeal before the apex court.

District government pleader Ujjwala Pawar told a special court in Pune that NIA’s application is “not legally tenable under the provision of law and particularly according to the provisions of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), 1967 and NIA Act, 2008.

The first information report (FIR) filed by National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Mumbai on January 24, has not invoked the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections pertaining to sedition and waging war against the government of India against the accused in the Elgar Parishad case.
