At the same time, the champions of Hindutva, Milind Ekbote and Sambhaji Bhide, against whom demonstrable evidence exists for their role in inciting the attack against Dalits at Bhim-Koregaon, continue to roam free and the FIRs against them have been closed.

The Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE), which represents the Bars of 45 countries, and, through them, around one million European lawyers, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the arrest lawyers Arun Ferreira and Sudha Bharadwaj. The letter, penned by CCBE President Antonín Mokry, notes that the CCBE “places great emphasis on respect for human rights and the Rule of Law, and is particularly concerned with the situation of human rights defenders around the world.”

Indian Association of People´s lawyers (IAPL) condemns the threat issued by Shivaji Pawar, ACP, Maharashtra Police to arrest IAPL’s President Justice Hosbet Suresh (Retd.) and the most alarming portrayal by him of IAPL as a frontal organization of CPI (Maoist). IAPL believes that such attacks on Judges and Human Right defenders which includes lawyers and organizations, require to be understood in the in the light of rising authoritarianism and fascist attacks in the country. Mumbai: Four months after Pune Police arrested Mahesh Raut, forest rights activist and former Prime Minister Rural Development Fellow, terming him an ‘Urban Naxal’, as many as 300 gram sabhas (village councils) from Etapalli and Bhamragad tehsils of Gadchiroli have passed a resolution in his support.
