Gadchiroli police in the late hours of January 30, 2019, took custody of noted human rights lawyer and Nagpur-based Dalit rights activist Surendra Gadling and activist-poet-writer P Varvara Rao from Pune’s Yerwada Jail authorities. The Police made the arrests in connection with another alleged case of involvement of Gadling and Rao in so-called “unlawful activity” related to the Surjagadh case of 2016. With these arrests, the apprehensions of “ever-greening” of charges on the civil rights activities becoming a reality.

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to quash Pune Police’s FIR against civil rights activist Anand Teltumbde for his alleged role in the Elgar Parishad-Koregaon Bhima violence and for his alleged Maoist links. The apex court also refused to interfere with the ongoing investigation in the case.

The Supreme Court today reserved its verdict in the appeal filed by the State of Maharashtra in the Bhima Koregaon case.
The two appeals listed before the Court were against the orders passed by Delhi High Court pertaining to Gautam Navlakha, and the Bombay High Court pertaining to Surendra Gadling and other activists.

Exactly 11 months after workers of Reliance industries were arrested on charges of UAPA and for their alleged connection to BhimaKoregaon case, the Bombay High Court, has, on December 17, has set aside a Sessions Court order granting extension of time beyond 90 days period for filing charge sheet.
