Human rights activist and lawyer Sudha Bhardwaj, arrested in connection with the Elgar Parishad case, has moved the Bombay High Court to seek bail.
The plea was taken up for hearing on Wednesday by Justice N W Sambre.
Bhardwaj, through her lawyer Yug Chaudhary, challenged the decision of a Pune court that had rejected her bail plea in October last year.

While Anand Teltumbde has protection order till February 11, 2019, the arrest made by the Pune police was illegal and was in gross violation of Supreme Court order, the Special Judge added. The Pune police are guilty of contempt of court for disdaining the order of the apex court, the Special Judge noted.

The Pune Sessions Court on Saturday ordered the release of writer and academic Anand Teltumbde hours after he was arrested from the Mumbai airport in connection with the violence that broke out last year in Bhima Koregaon. The court called his arrest illegal.

The Pune Police arrested scholar and civil rights activist Anand Teltumbde from Mumbai airport around 3.30 AM today, despite a Supreme Court order which granted him interim protection from arrest for four weeks from January 14.
He is facing charges under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The Pune police allege that the enquiry into Bhima-Koregaon violence which took place in January 1, 2018 revealed that Teltubmde had links with Maoist organizations.

Gadchiroli police in the late hours of January 30, 2019, took custody of noted human rights lawyer and Nagpur-based Dalit rights activist Surendra Gadling and activist-poet-writer P Varvara Rao from Pune’s Yerwada Jail authorities. The Police made the arrests in connection with another alleged case of involvement of Gadling and Rao in so-called “unlawful activity” related to the Surjagadh case of 2016. With these arrests, the apprehensions of “ever-greening” of charges on the civil rights activities becoming a reality.

The Bombay High Court on Friday dismissed activist Anand Teltumbde’s plea seeking quashing of FIR against him in the Bhima Koregaon case. The court, however, granted him protection from arrest for three more weeks.
