In the 1990s Sudha Bharadwaj came to Bhilai where the contract workers of ACC Cement were struggling for regularization.
Sudha Bhardwaj played an important role in their battle in the court and on the street. When a multinational company took over ACC cement she got in contact with international unions who supported the workers in their fight for regularization.

Over 70 organizations and several individuals from around the country endorsed the call initiated by the People’s Union for Civil Liberties to conduct protest actions from August 28 to September 5, considering the deterioration in Civil Liberties in the recent past. This call was given marking August 28 as the day when two years ago, 5 human rights activists — Sudha Bharadwaj, Gautam Navlakha, Varavara Rao, Arun Ferriera and Vernon Gonsalves were arrested in the Bhima Koregaon Conspiracy Case.

The callousness with which these political dissidents are being treated goes against the Supreme Court’s directive, given right at the beginning of the lockdown.
The last few days have shown that the Right to Health, defined by the Supreme Court in more than one judgment as an integral part of the Right to Life, is being denied to the jailed intellectuals awaiting trial in the Bhima Koregaon case.

The Bombay High Court Friday refused to grant bail to activist Sudha Bharadwaj on medical grounds.
A division bench of Justices V G Bisht and RD Dhanuka accepted the statement made by the Public Prosecutor that as and when any further treatment, medication and hospitalization is required to Bharadwaj as may be advised by the concerned Medical Officer, it would be provided to the Appellant.

Court noted that prison authorities will continue providing her medical aid for her chronic ailments and rejected her plea.
