Today the Bhima Koregaon arrestees were brought to the Sessions Court in Mumbai.
As I made my way to the court along with the daughter of another arrestee, I couldn’t help but notice a feeling of gloom come over me. Even as we spoke to each other in the cab, I had a premonition of the long struggle ahead for both our parents and us. In spite of it being more than a year and a half since these arrests happened, the end seems nowhere in sight. The proceedings in court further reinforced these feelings. Read more
Special NIA court begins hearing of Elgar Parishad case
A special NIA court heard the Elgar Parishad case for the first time on Friday, a day after the accused were moved from Pune to Mumbai.
Individuals accused in the Elgar Parishad case were produced before a special NIA court in Mumbai on Friday. Initially investigated by Pune City Police, the case was recently handed over to the central agency amidst protests by political parties like the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). All of the accused had been shifted to a Mumbai jail from Pune prior to the court hearing. Read more

Case Transferred to Special NIA Court Mumbai From Pune
The Additional Sessions Court, Pune on Friday allowed National Investigation Agency’s application seeking transfer of the trial in Bhima Koregaon case to Special NIA Court Mumbai.
Firstly, the Central Government passed an order on January 24, 2020 directing NIA to take up the investigation in the case. Pursuant to this, NIA filed an application before the trial court. Read more

A sessions court in the city of Pune in Maharashtra on Friday transferred the Bhima Koregaon-Elgar Parishad case to a special National Investigation Agency court in Mumbai, PTI reported. Additional Sessions Judge SR Navander passed the order after the state government submitted it had no objection to the investigation agency’s plea for a transfer. Read more

Special Judge Navandar said he will pass an order on NIA’s application in one week, on February 14.

Charges of sedition, war against govt not mentioned in NIA FIR
The first information report (FIR) filed by National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Mumbai on January 24, has not invoked the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections pertaining to sedition and waging war against the government of India against the accused in the Elgar Parishad case.
