In the corridors of power back then, there was a genuine appreciation for priests and nuns who serve among the oppressed in India’s underdeveloped regions. Stan Swamy, who recently died in prison, did not get the same appreciation from either politicians or the media.

The National Investigation Agency on Monday opposed a petition filed by activist Rona Wilson, an accused in the Bhima Koregaon case, for interim bail to attend a ceremonial mass after his father’s death, PTI reported.
The agency said that Wilson’s family members could perform the rituals in his absence, The Indian Express reported.

Of the 16 accused arrested in the Bhima Koregaon caste violence case, Rao is the only one to be granted temporary bail.
Telugu poet PV Varavara Rao, an accused in the Bhima Koregaon – Elgar Parishad caste violence case has approached the Bombay High Court to extend his medical bail and for permission to reside at his home in Telangana.
In his petition, Rao has said he is still ailing and hasn’t flouted a single bail condition; therefore, he was deserving of the reliefs sought.
