Letter condemns ‘environment of fear promoted by State’
On International Human Rights Day on Tuesday, all nine accused in the Bhima Koregaon violence wrote to the chairperson of the State Human Rights Commission, “condemning the environment of fear and criminalisation promoted by the State wherein the human rights of Indian citizens and especially those of human rights defenders who are critical of State policies are under threat.”

The signatories to the letter said that their bail applications were rejected by the court in spite of the reputations they had.
Eight of the 10 accused in the Bhima Koregaon case on Tuesday wrote to the Maharashtra Human Rights Commission, alleging that the state government had imprisoned them due to their dissenting views as defenders of human rights.

Today thousands of laborers of Chhattisgarh Mukti Morcha-Mazdoor Karyakarta Committee (CMM-MKC) and Pragatisheel Cement Shramik Sangh (PCSS) came out on the streets of Bhilai (Chhattisgarh).
Speakers in the meeting said that nowadays the right of the workers to speak up is being taken away and that this is an attack on the right of freedom of expression. They also said that they stand in solidarity with advocate Sudha Bhardwaj who spoke on the rights of workers and who was arrested under UAPA. They criticised that she has not been released on bail even after one year and that this directly violates democratic values.

A Protest Demonstration was organized today on 15th July 2019 at Budha Talab, Raipur against the illegal detention of Sudha Bhardwaj demanding her immediate release. Organized under the banner of Chhattsigarh Bachao Andolan, the day-long Dharna ended by submitting a Memorandum to the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh demanding the State Government to clarify their stand on the entire episode, and their positive intervention.
