The National Investigation Agency (NIA) in its reply filed recently objecting to the bail application filed by professor and activist Anand Teltumbde, has cited electronic evidence seized from the co-accused Rona Wilson.
This assumes significance in the backdrop of a report of US-based digital forensics firm Arsenal Consulting which stated in its report based on analysis that the incriminating evidence found on Wilson’s computer was ‘planted’ through a cyber attack.

The NIA opposed Teltumbde’s bail application claiming that Teltumbde guided his younger brother Milind to expand ‘urban naxal movements of Maoism’.
Anand Teltumbde, accused in the 2018 Bhima Koregaon violence, was an active member of banned political organisation, Communist Party of India (Maoist), the National Investigation Agency (NIA) told the special court, opposing his bail application (National Investigation Agency v. Anand Teltumbde).

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), while opposing a bail plea by Elgar Parishad accused Anand Teltumbde, has claimed that he “was in touch with wanted accused Milind Teltumbde and had a secret meeting with him”.
Milind is his brother who, the NIA said, had inspired to join and expand the Maoist movement.
The bail plea will be heard on March 11.

The National Investigating Agency has said that former IIT professor and academic, Anand Teltumbde, an accused in the Bhima Koregaon-Elgaar Parishad case, inspired his brother, a wanted Maoist leader, to join the movement and shared “banned literature” from his international conferences with him.
Even though the two brothers have led entirely separate lives, Teltumbde as a professor at IIT-Kharagpur and later at the Goa Institute of Management, and Milind as an alleged Maoist leader carrying a bounty of Rs 50 lakh, the agency has said that Milind used literature from Teltumbde’s conferences to expand the banned organisations movements in urban areas.

Pune police have granted permission to the Elgar Parishad which is slated to be held on January 30, reported Maharashtra Times.
As per the Facebook post on January 22, the event will be held at the Ganesh Krida Kala Manch in Pune’s Swargate area. “Organizers of Elgar have met Pune Commissioner of Police IPS Amitabh Gupta and Pune Police has given permission for the Elgar Parishad 2021,” reads the post.

Anand Teltumbde, former Professor at IIT and academic, has once again sought bail from Special NIA court, Mumbai as he has been in the agency’s custody since April 2020. The hearing is likely to take place on January 27 at the special NIA Court. He was earlier denied bail by the court in July 2020.

Anand Teltumbde, an accused in the Bhima Koregaon violence case, filed a bail application before a special NIA court on Wednesday and argued that investigators have no evidence about his alleged association with the Maoists.
In his 64-page bail plea, Teltumbde said contrary to the allegations levelled against him, he has always been critical of the Maoist ideology and even a written a book on the subject.

Sudhir Dhawale, a Dalit activist, writer, journalist, and editor of a Marathi magazine called ‘Vidrohi’, was arrested by Pune police on 6 June 2018. He was arrested previously in 2011 for 40 months, for the same reason he has been arrested this time – purported links with the Maoists. Dhawale, previously an activist of the Republican Panthers Jaatiya Antachi Chalwal, was involved in planning and execution of the Elgar Parishad, where he tried to bring activists and leaders from across political spectrum together to speak out against the Hindutva fascist regime.
Today, he spends his birthday in the infamous Taloja Jail of Mumbai.

What we miss by ignoring Maratha caste politics in the Bhima Koregaon case
Three years ago on 1 January 2018, an annual gathering of largely Dalit visitors to the memorial of Bhima Koregaon, near Pune, was attacked by mobs led by Hindu-nationalist organisations. For several weeks, these organisations had been trying to rouse the area’s Maratha population against the Dalit Buddhist community. A day after the violence, Anita Sawale, an anti-caste activist who was present at the gathering, filed a first-information report identifying the mobs as followers of the Hindutva leaders Manohar Bhide – who calls himself Sambhaji Bhide – and Milind Ekbote.
