Free the rights activists in India: Global academics and social justice crusaders issue statement

The Leaflet / Statement by “Fresh Perspectives, USA”

To defend the rights of the imprisoned and to prevent further illegal detentions, we, a group of social justice activists and scholars, came together and formed an association called Fresh Perspectives, USA. We have reached out to public intellectuals, critical thinkers and scholars outside India to collect their voice condemning those illegal arrests and the violation of human rights in India. We were amazed by the response from scholars around the world. Some of the signatories are the most influential thinkers of late 20th and 21st Century.

Kis Kis Ko Qaid Karoge

Press Club of India, New Delhi
For over a year now, we have witnessed a political and legal battle over the right to dissent. It began with the right of dalits, bahujans, adivasis, Muslims, women and thousands from marginalised communities across the country to congregate at Koregaon on the banks of Bhima River near Pune to commemorate a battle fought two centuries ago. This, commemorated as an annual event, is a symbolic assertion of the historically oppressed Mahars against the dominant caste order of the Peshwas. This assertion by the most marginalised communities seemed to rankle the establishment.

Online Petition: Appeal for Fr. Stan Swamy

Drop the false charges against Fr Stan Swamy immediately!

We stand together strongly to condemn the false allegations and defamatory charges against Fr Stan Swamy by the Pune police, under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967 (UAPA). These charges frame him in the Bhima Koregaon case, call him an “urban naxalite”, and accuse him of plotting the assassination of the Prime Minister. They are patently false and defamatory.
